The 2023 Packaging Innovation & Design Awards were hosted last week in Melbourne, following the first day of the AIP’s Australian Packaging Conference.

Sustainability took centre stage at this year’s PIDA with the Sustainable Packaging Design of the Year award split into the following categories:

  • Recycled Content
  • Labelling
  • Mono Material Advancements
  • Renewable Materials
  • Compostables

This year, foodpro is partnering with the AIP to bring education on responsible practices when it comes to food packaging, and we are thrilled to see so many foodpro 2023 exhibitors taking out awards for innovative packaging or processing solutions that incorporate sustainability considerations.

Winning the labelling category was Herma InNo Liner Labelling by Result Group and Hanes Australasia.

Herma InNo Liner, that will be showcased at foodpro by Result Group (stand Q45), is a labelling system that does not contain any liner material enabling less waste, reduced shipping costs and cardon footprint benefits. The system is completely recyclable, has no liners, and is silicone-free.

The silver winner in the Mono Material Advancements category was Sealed Air’s CRYOVAC Darfesh Mono-PET rollstock for JBS Swift Lamb Cutlets. Sealed Air also took out Silver for Renewable Materials with their Tempguard Gusset for HelloFresh. Two more sustainable packaging technologies that will be found at foodpro (stand R2).

Bronze for the Renewable Materials category was picked up by Detpak (as part of the Detmold Group)and Woolworths Supermarkets for Sustainable Fresh Produce Packaging. Detpak will be exhibiting on stand J30 at foodpro.

Finally, the DualPakECO dual ovenable trays, made in Australia by Confoil in collaboration with BASF took home the Gold award for the Compostables category.

Visit Confoil on stand H30 to see their DualPakECO trays, certified compostable to Australian standards, and a revolutionary alternative to conventional PET packaging for ready-to-eat meals.
